Built around bassist and composer Mike Rivard, the band creates performances that begin with a groove and open into something older, stranger, and completely unbound by genre.</div><div style="margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; font-size: 12pt;">Each show features a rotating cast of musicians drawn from Boston, New York, and beyond, creating a constantly shifting musical ecosystem where trance forms the central core. Under the influence of longtime member and Casablanca native Brahim Fribgane, Moroccan trance music became deeply embedded in the band’s DNA. Though Fribgane passed away in early 2024, his spirit remains central to the sound, especially through Rivard’s commanding sintir work, which he studied under Fribgane and Gnawa masters Hassan Hakmoun and Mahmoud Guinia.</div><div style="margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; font-size: 12pt;">Club d’Elf’s new album, <a href="https://clubdelf.bandcamp.com/album/loon-thrush" id="m_4760031329736247956OWAf9fc2743-1f7d-3b85-be4f-7d0c6c1c9f38" target="_blank" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://clubdelf.bandcamp.com/album/loon-thrush&source=gmail&ust=1785939153530000&usg=AOvVaw3AMRfwuqe31gTY4H-F5CEg" style="color: rgb(17, 85, 204);"><b><i>Loon and Thrush</i></b></a>, was recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs, capturing the raw, improvisatory energy that defines the band.
