<div>The Father - A Special Screening to Benefit the Alzheimer's Family Support Center.</div><div><br></div><div>Since premiering at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, Florian Zeller's The Father, went on to</div><div>earn widespread critical acclaim and six Academy Award nominations. The Father took home a</div><div>trophy via Anthony Hopkins, who claimed the Best Actor victory for his leading performance.</div><div>Adapted from the 2012 French play Le Père, the film follows an elderly man, played</div><div>by Hopkins, who struggles with leaning on his daughter, played by Olivia Colman, as he begins</div><div>to develop dementia. Colman also earned an Oscar nomination, for Best Actress, along with the</div><div>film's other nods for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best</div><div>Production Design.</div><div><br></div><div>Before the film, we will have a riveting discussion moderated by co-founder of the Cape Cod</div><div>Alzheimer's Family Support Center (AFSC) in Brewster, Melanie Braverman. Panelists will</div><div>include Andrew K. Palmer, MD, who had an illustrious 35 year career as a teacher, hand</div><div>surgeon, entrepreneur; researcher and one of the world’s experts on the wrist joint. Nationally,</div><div>he received numerous honors and served as an officer in many medical organizations,</div><div>culminating in being the 52nd President of the American Society for Surgery of the hand. </div><div><br></div><div>In 2009, Andy and his wife moved to Eastham, MA where he continued to work part time for</div><div>Outer Cape Health Services as an Orthopedic surgeon. In 2024, he was diagnosed with mild</div><div>cognitive Impairment.  A large portion of his time now centers on trying to help those diagnosed</div><div>with MCI and Alzheimer's disease and their care-partners better understand their disease and</div><div>how to deal with it. </div><div><br></div><div>In addition, Nurse Practitioner and Chiropractor Physician, Julie Sieben, will also participate as</div><div>a panelist. Julie worked in Neurology at Cape Cod Healthcare, and now is an Advanced</div><div>Practice Clinician practicing Pain Medicine at the Cape Cod Hospital Pain Center in Hyannis.</div><div>Julie’s husband suffers from Frontotemporal dementia, causing dramatic shifts in personality,</div><div>behavior, and language skills rather than early memory loss. Julie’s experience runs deep</div><div>professionally and personally.</div><div><br></div><div>The Alzheimer’s Family Support Center (AFSC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing</div><div>psychosocial educational supports to families, professionals and individuals living with</div><div>Alzheimer's and other dementia-related diseases. Services include support groups,</div><div>consultations, care planning, phone support, education, insurance support, and social and</div><div>cultural programming-at no cost.
