BENEFIT FOR THE CAPE COD FISHERMEN’S ALLIANCE

Fishermen live a life that's deeply connected to nature, shaped by the rhythm of the tides, the temperament of the sea, and the unpredictability of the catch. Their work is both physically demanding and emotionally rewarding, often driven more by passion than profit.

The Hand That Holds The Line, a new documentary by Geoff C. Bassett and Kim Roderiques, shine a light on Cape Cod fishermen who have devoted their lives to one of the most challenging and dangerous professions in the world.

COMEDY NIGHT AT THE ORPHEUM!

Longtime New England headliners Mike Donovan and Bob Niles join host Jim Ruberti as comedy comes to the Chatham Orpheum Theater, 637 Main Street, Chatham on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Presented by Scamps Comedy, the show is one of three professional comedy shows scheduled at the theater during the fall, winter and spring seasons. Material is suitable for adults over 21.

 Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Mike Donovan, recipient of the 2024 Boston Comedy Legacy Award, is from the legendary wave of “Ding Ho Comics” from the 1970s and still has his fastball. The South Boston native works the top clubs in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and has been featured on The NESN Comedy All-Stars, ESPN’s SportsCenter, Fox’s Best Damn Sports Show Period, and the Showtime network. He was featured in the documentary When Standup Stood Out. He’s also a frequent guest on Boston radio, particularly WBZ.

South Shore native Bob Niles has been a popular comedian in New England for more than 30 years, headlining shows at comedy clubs, Elks clubs, Lions clubs, country clubs, Rotary clubs, and just regular traffic rotaries. Niles has lived an unusual life, and when he examines this life for people to see, the results are pure dynamite! Bob was just 20 years old when his first child was born, and his second child came when he was 46. Niles examines the happenings in between, with hilarious observations from crazy situations. From the Woodstock-generation to the 21st century, Niles has been both confused observer and baffled participant.

Centerville’s Jim Ruberti, “Cape Cod’s Favorite Comedian,” is a Boston comedian and actor who has been entertaining people for more than 30 years. He is the regular New Year’s Eve host of comedy at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, and features and headlines around New England. He has performed with such comedians as Lenny Clarke, Steve Sweeney, Paul Nardizzi, Christine Hurley, Jimmy Dunn, Dave Rattigan, Mike Donovan, and Juston McKinney. Venues include Boston’s famed Nick’s Comedy Stop, the Mass Arts Center, Comedy Key West, and more. He has performed at the Hampton Beach Comedy Festival, Cape Cod Comedy Weekend and is a cast member for the Ranting Parents Comedy Tour. Jim’s comedy is clean and fresh, centered around family and current events.

THIRTEEN DAYS

A Benefit for Cape Mediation

ABOUT CAPE MEDIATION and WHY WE CHOSE THIRTEEN DAYS

for Dispute Resolution Week

On October 27, 1962, U.S. airman, Rudolf Anderson Jr.. was shot down while flying a top-secret reconnaissance mission over Cuba that confirmed the existence of Soviet missile sites just 90 miles from the American mainland.  Thirteen Days tells the story of how U. S. President John F. Kennedy, and Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, and their advisors, came up with a plan to avoid war through dialogue and negotiation.

At Cape Mediation we believe that conflict can be an opportunity to create positive change.  Following the Cuban Missile Crises, both the United States and Soviet Union agreed to install a direct hotline between Washington and Moscow, colloquially known as the red telephone.  The hotline enabled leaders of both countries to communicate rapidly in the event of another potentially catastrophic confrontation.

Cape Cod Dispute Resolution Center, Inc., dba Cape Mediation, is a small Cape Cod nonprofit Mediation center that has a mission of bringing people together at a time when they are faced with difficult situations such as losing their homes, dealing with the loss of a loved one, keeping their businesses running, or just being able to pay their bills. Mediation offers the opportunity to resolve conflicts and build a stronger community together.

Proceeds from the film will be used to help support Cape Mediations youth programs.
